D’où vient la coutume de manger le goûter à 15h au Japon ?

Where does the custom of eating a snack at 3 PM in Japan come from?

According to the Seiko Museum*, during the Edo period, people only ate two meals a day: one in the morning and one in the evening. As a result, around 3 PM, people would eat a snack to last until the end of the day. This time corresponded to the "yatsu" period (between 2 PM and 4 PM) in the traditional division of the day; the Japanese word "o-yatsu," meaning snack, derives from it. However, 🍽️ meals did not conclude with dessert.
What is your favorite time of day to eat something sweet? A snack, after a meal, or... both?!
