Tokoname: 1000 Years of Japanese Quality

Tokoname is the oldest and most important of Japan's six ancient pottery centers. On the archipelago, the city is synonymous with cha-ki – or tea utensils – and its production is the result of a long tradition of craftsmanship. Even today, despite increasing mechanization, teapots combining multiple pieces are assembled by hand.

Instructions for Use

Before first use, remove the protective tip from the spout if there is one. Scald the teapot and it will be ready for use.
Traditionally, terracotta teapots are not washed with dish soap.
After use, discard tea leaves and wash the teapot with water. Remove the lid when leaving it to dry.
If tea leaves clog the filter, use a soft-bristled brush to remove them. Cleaning the ceramic filter with a hard object such as a toothpick can crack it.
If stains left by tea tannins bother you, gently brush the affected area with baking soda mixed with water.

The surface of a Tokoname teapot becomes shiny over time.
